What are the craziest urban trends you have heard of or seen?
recent urban trends like “grills” (teeth made of jewelry), White Tees (from a rap video where everyone now wears one), Ghost Riding the Whip (dancing on a driverless car) are just some of the examples of crazy urban trends today.
I was wondering if you have seen (and hopefully have links to) any urban trends… from either music (videos and the like), movies, tv shows, etc…
I want weird. I want absurd. I want to know about those trends that make your head shake with thoughts of WHY? the more retarded the better.
One person mentioned they have seen some ridiculous emo and punk and goth trends too… WHAT ARE THEY?.. this isnt about hip hop.. this is about all stupid trends!!
Jessie T mentioned “stacking” and “stepping”.. stacking.. yeah.. thats stupid.. stepping though is an actual dance form that goes back hundreds of years… its only now that its gaining popularity in the urban world.. though.. he may be onto something. i am sure some “retardedness” will come of it from the movie.. only time will tell.
I DO NOT CARE ABOUT TRENDS LIKE BAGGY JEANS AND RIPPING CLOTHES.. THOSE ARE SIMPLY TRENDS.. I CARE ABOUT IF THOSE ARE A DIRECT RESULT OF SOMETHING YOU SAW IN A MOVIE OR MUSIC VIDEO.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU HAVE SEEN IN MUSIC VIDEO OR MOVIE THAT HAS LED TO A TREND THAT IS STUPID (AS YOU UNDERSTAND STUPID)?
How do you spot new trends **before** they get really big?
I find this simple question to be extremely challenging to answer: How do you spot new trends **before** they get really big?
Please understand: I am looking at this question as a study in sociology; please don’t advise to ‘just be yourself’, ’stop following trends’, etc.
How can new trends be spotted **before** they get really big?
Trends could be:
-Shifts in public opinion
-Fashion Trends
-Food
-Music
-Dances
-Crazes
-Hot toys
-Etc.
Who thinks that there should be another carribean trend in music?
i really love the sound of zouk music from antilles, guadeloupe, and martinique , or kizomba from cape verde or panama, at one time i remember lots of island records being hits which were mainly from jamaica, haiti, etc. but zouk music is lovely sounding…
Asia: Haven for banal (music/ fashion) trends?
Full question:
Has anybody noticed that that which the West apparently finds banal (and sometimes downright derogatory) – often gets the exact opposite treatment (good, in other words) in Asia?
Detail 1: Of course not everything, though…
Details 2: I’m referring to both the trend itself and the name of the trend.
Details 3: Here are examples: EMO (hair and music); cuteness (for both girls and boys); Crunk (music); ‘geek’ culture, etc, etc.
